Free Pantone trio is a Portuguese musical group recently created in Lisbon by the bassist Rui Sousa, the pianist Manuel Guimarães and the drummer João Valinho. From a trans-idiomatic and experimental character, it seeks to explore various musical genres and subgenres from jazz and contemporary music. Improvisation is the channel of communication that unites them, using their personal background of active and passive listening, following, adding and generating notes to that the real time composition to take place.
In 2017, the Free Pantone trio was invited to participate in the collection “IImprovisation Across the world Vol. I” from the label (A new Hai), the group was represented with the theme “Night Diving” recorded live in the Museum National Music on July 2018.
After three more concerts in Lisbon (Livraria Ler Devagar), in the (Unreal) and in the (Auditorium of the Bank of Portugal) the group met to ponder how to go forward, the result … was the recording of their first album in his own name recorded in Lisbon on April 23rd 2018, featuring the English clarinetist Noel Taylor, recently established in Lisbon
“Free Pantone trio – A blink of an eye to the nature of things” edited in London on August 24th, 2018 by (FMR Records).
Live the Free Pantone trio also becomes a quartet with the inclusion of a guest musician.
